It was quite an awaking this morning for staff and students as we met at assembly, duly noting that some familiar faces were missing. Yes, already they are being missed. However, Friday was one of the best graduation’s in my time at Glendyne. The ceremony was exciting, and feedback received by parents, friends and students was very positive. It was a nice way to finish the final year for the Year 12s.
I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you to all who attended to celebrate with the Year 12s, especially the parents. I would once again like to especially thank parents, Craig and Denise Campbell for their support of the school in always being available, and volunteering their help in fund raising activities. Thank you also to Tamara Lunt who has helped with the Middle School music program, and has advised that she wants to continue with this in 2019.
Thank you also to Lachlan Frahm and Cheyenne Campbell who served two years as Captains, even though they were vice-captains in 2017. They didn’t use this as an excuse, and represented the school very well in their time, and upheld school values as leaders and mentors.
Finally, thank you to the staff. I would like to thank Donna West for her speech that reflected on the individual qualities of each Year 12 student at the graduation ceremony.
As I mentioned in my speech, the words of the late and great Winston Churchill, “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” Year 12 is the end of the beginning of 12 years of school education. But there is a lot more to life than this. To all Year 12s, take what you have learnt, use this to empower your decisions for the future, and keep pursuing opportunities.
I mentioned at assembly this morning to the Year 11 students; Your turn to graduate is now only 12 months away. Keep working, and don’t leave your best effort until 3 months before you graduate in 2019.
I hope you enjoy the selected graduation photos. Please don’t forget, the Year 6 – 11 awards ceremony and student only School Christmas party is on 30 November, commencing at 9am. I hope to see you at the awards.
